What was your first thought when you were crowned Miss Nutmeg’s Outstanding Teen 2019?
My heart flew out of my chest and my first thought was pure joy and excitement! There is nothing more rewarding than looking out into the audience knowing I made my family and friends proud. I was beyond excited for the journey ahead and knew that my story in this organization had another exciting chapter.
What do you hope to accomplish as Miss Nutmeg’s Outstanding Teen 2019?
Having the privilege of representing the Miss Connecticut Organization as a teen titleholder for past three years, I now have the honor to hold the title of Miss Nutmeg’s Outstanding Teen 2019. Since I was crowned, I have continued to educate and speak to audiences about my personal platform, “Celebrating Abilities & Beyond” and align myself with organizations that also support my mission of fostering an environment where everyone feels valued. As founder of this program, I work passionately to inspire others to be the voice of equality, respect and most important – inclusivity. Along with my personal platform, I am proud to continue to speak to audiences and raise funds for the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen National Platform – Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
To you, why is Miss America still relevant?
Miss America is and has always been an organization that empowers women around the country to strive to be the best version of yourself, give back to your community, help others and make your mark on the world.
What has been your favorite appearance thus far as Miss Nutmeg’s Outstanding Teen 2019?
My calendar has been filled with so many wonderful appearances around the state of Connecticut – it is very hard to choose just one favorite. From my “Celebrating Abilities & Beyond Fashion Show Fundraiser” to my school visits and everything in between, each appearance or event is inspiring in its own special way. One night that I will cherish forever is the Tim Tebow Foundation “Night To Shine” event. This is an unforgettable prom night for people with special needs. 100,000 Kings and Queens. One Night To Shine. It was an honor to be an invited guest and share in a movement that creates a world where everyone feels loved and knows they are valued.
What is your favorite quote?
Nothing Is Impossible. The Word Itself Says I’m Possible! – Audrey Hepburn
Fun fact: As a competitive dancer of 13 years, I stepped out of my comfort zone earlier this year and also joined the Cross Country Team for the very first time ever as a freshman in high school. I quickly fell in love with the sport, continued on to join both the Indoor and Spring Track & Field teams and was very proud to earn a Varsity Letter!
Who would you like to thank for helping you get to this point?
My family is definitely my greatest support system. They encourage me to always work hard, be humble, set goals, be proud of who I am, be the best version of Emerson that I can be and most important – they love me unconditionally.
